How to effectively eliminate humidity at home with Homemade Humidifiers

All houses have humidity, in fact, a degree of 30% to 50% humidity in a house is necessary for optimal comfort; but when the humidity exceeds 70%, it is excessive and problems appear.

If this happens in your home, there are solutions for you to remedy it. Homemade solutions, such as homemade and natural dehumidifiers that we are going to see, and other non-natural products, such as electric dehumidifiers that are very effective in eliminating humidity from your home.

How To Know If You Have Excess Humidity In Your Home

Before seeing  how to make a homemade humidifier with natural products , or adopting any of the solutions that we are going to see, you should know if you have excess humidity at home. If you have observed any of these symptoms, you probably have moisture problems.

These are just some of the causes of excessive humidity in the home. But they are a good thermometer to know if you need a dehumidifier.

So, let’s start with the traditional home methods to remove moisture from the house, with these ways to make a home dehumidifier.

HOW TO MAKE A HOME DEHUMIDIFIER

Necessary materials:

– 2 cans or buckets. (That one fits inside the other)

– Rock salt or if you don’t have it you can also use silica cat litter, calcium chloride or coarse salt. But rock salt is quite effective.

– A drill.

– Cotton fabric. (Enough to cover the hole in the bucket)

Step by Step:

In one of the buckets or cans, make several holes with the drill, about 7 or 8, 0.5cm each, in the bottom of the bucket or can. Let’s go pierce the bucket bottom.

Now put the bucket with the holes inside the other bucket

Then, you put the piece of cloth inside the bucket covering the holes. And inside the bucket, you put two kilos of rock salt, cat litter or coarse salt, the product you have chosen.

Now that you have prepared the dehumidifier, put it where there is humidity.

After a few days you will see water inside the bucket. Remove that water and put it back in to continue absorbing moisture.

You have to keep in mind that periodically you will have to replace the rock salt with a new one, since there comes a time when it stops absorbing moisture.

Let’s move on to another method of making a homemade dehumidifier.

Materials:

– A bucket, jar or jar with a lid. Example: A jar of coffee, etc.

– A knife

– Charcoal

Step by Step:

We put pieces of charcoal inside the jar.

With the knife, we make several holes in the lid and then, we put the lid on its jar.

Ready, you already have the homemade dehumidifier made.

Now put the pot in that place where there is moisture.

As with the rock salt, you will also need to change the charcoal, roughly every month.

Let’s see another way to make a homemade dehumidifier.

This other option is more of a remedy, you don’t have to make anything. We just need some chalk, like the ones we use to write on a blackboard and tie them all together with a bow, for example, and put them inside the closet or place where there is humidity so that they absorb it.

You can also put them in an open jar, or in a box, but as we see with a bow it looks quite good.

As you can see, this idea is for small spaces, but the good thing is that we can do it in each drawer or closet and thus avoid humidity, although you also use other homemade humidifiers for larger areas of the house.

All of these dehumidifiers really work, although it must also be admitted that they are not as effective as a good factory dehumidifier. By his side they literally come to nothing.

If the level of humidity in your home is relatively low , or located in a small space, the home dehumidifiers that we have just seen can help you .

Let’s continue with more tips to remove moisture from home.

HOW TO PREVENT HUMIDITY INSIDE THE HOUSE

Although there are remedies to get rid of humidity at home as we have just seen, we can also reduce or be more aware of when we are increasing humidity at home and prevent it, as we will see below.

You can acquire simple gestures like the ones we are going to see below, to avoid or keep humidity at bay at home, or at least, to reduce its possible appearance.

Ventilate the house whenever you can .

When ventilating a home, air currents are created that reduce humidity.

It is one of the most effective ways to reduce the percentage of humidity in a house in record time.

Fix pipes and other damage caused by moisture .

Obviously, if we have a leak from the washing machine, sink, shower or any other element that releases water, we must fix it to avoid moisture problems.

Once the leak is fixed, we will proceed to repair the humidity; Here you can see  how to clean up and repair a damp wall or ceiling .

REPAIR DAMPNESS STEP BY STEP IN INTERIOR WALLS AND CEILINGS:

Make use of fans .

Remember, air currents remove moisture as they favor evaporation.

Avoid long showers .

The longer the shower, the more steam there will be.

So ventilate the bathroom well or make sure the extractor fan works properly.

Avoid lying indoors .

Unless you have no other option, always put clothes outside to dry; in this way it will not expel the humidity inside the house.

Replace air conditioning filters and possible extractors .

If filters become clogged, airflow slows down and moisture condenses more easily in your home.

Take the maintenance of the filters up to date so that none of this happens to you.

Plug in the stove or fireplace .

In addition to air, another factor that removes moisture is heat. But a dry and constant heat, like that of a stove or radiator.

It is not always possible, but it is another effective way to eliminate humidity in the house.

Although these tips are useful and effective, it must be recognized that when a certain area is humid, as it happens in my case, that in winter we do not drop below 90% humidity, no matter how many tricks we use, it is always necessary to use dehumidifiers if we want to get rid of the humidity.
